Three Steps To Creating Plans That WorkOur lives are affected by many changes happening all around us year after year. In order to keep your plan working the way you want and expect it to, we need to view life and estate planning as a process, not as a one-time transaction. Every estate plan has three stages: Initial creation of the plan; Implementation of the plan and updating the plan for changes; and Settlement (passing on control in the event of disability or passing on your estate after death.) What is needed to keep an estate plan current and working the way you want?
The fact is that estate plans do not continue to work the way families would like them to unless the plan includes a process for ongoing updating and education. To implement this three step process of planning in my office, we use an updating program to help assure that clients' documents are current, that they incorporate the latest changes in estate planning law, and that clients and their successors are comfortable with the plan they have designed. This program is called the LifeTime Planning Program. Specifically, the purposes of this program are to:
